About Samantha Knight
How would you describe yourself with five words? Creative, Passionate, Discreet, Approachable, Imaginative.
What are your main interests and hobbies? Yoga, ethics, entertaining, horse riding, travelling and exploring as well as supporting and encouraging other female entrepreneurs.
Working as an Interior Designer
What have you studied or worked as before? Fashion and interior design. I worked for 10 years as a luxury design PR for brands such as Lalique.
How did your career as an interior designer start? Whilst I was representing Lalique at a PR agency, a friend of mine asked me to design his apartment in London. He loved it and my earnings allowed me to leave the world of PR and study for my professional qualification in interior design. From here, I trained at a leading property development firm in London, working on the refurbishment of iconic building across the city, before starting my own interior design and lifestyle business ‘TD International’ with a colleague.
How would you describe a typical day in your job? No day is the same. One day I might be taking a flight to visit a client abroad and working on a creative concept mid-flight, another morning I might be sourcing fittings and furnishings for a presentation, and reviewing technical drawings in the afternoon with my Lead Architectural Designer, and another I might be spending the day on site wearing a hard hat and catching up with my team of amazing builders. The life of a designer is varied, exciting, creative and hard work. My clients are exacting and I am ‘on’ 24 hours a day. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.
A Love for Craftsmanship
What do you love most about your job? The satisfaction of delivering a lifestyle for my clients in their home. Your environment is so closely linked to your wellbeing and it gives me great satisfaction to improve the day to day life of my clients with clever design and practical solutions.
What fascinates you about interior design and luxury? The attention to detail and the craftsmanship. I am constantly learning and discovering new materials and methods of making, which go beyond the ordinary. There are so many talented craftsman in Europe and further afield, and I love to discover something that I know my client will love and won’t find anywhere else.
Where do you see yourself in the future, what would you like to accomplish? I will continue to grow my interior design and lifestyle business on the island, employing a multi-national team. This way I can offer my clients amazing design as well as complementary lifestyle services. I am also very dedicated to the support of female entrepreneurs so I would love to set up a foundation. In my opinion it is very important that women support each other. And when women come together in a positive fashion, it can be a very powerful thing.
