An intercultural journey and authentic emotional experience. The city of Palma will once again welcome talented filmmakers, actors and cinema lovers in a new edition of the exciting Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival (EMIFF).

The annual event offers an excellent chance to network with some of the most well-known and indisputable minds in filmmaking. EMIFF is as intimate and international as it is breathtaking. Filmmakers gather every year on the island to ‘discover the next great generation of filmmakers and be inspired by industry experts’ -and they never go home disappointed.

As the Evolution! Mallorca International Film Festival enters its 8th edition, the event has been recognised as one of the fastest-growing film festivals in Europe, using international film to shape a creative community, allowing independent filmmakers to feel inspired, to network and thrive in Mallorca. This years event will once again have a star studded lineup, with Asif Kapadia, Lena Headey and Guy Nattiv all in attendance!

For seven days and six nights, EMIFF’s program is curated to showcase a culturally diverse, inclusive and provocative mix of feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos, childrens’ films, experimental films, animation shorts and Virtual Reality projects.

The festival, that has its headquarters in Mallorca, welcomes attendees from over 20 different countries. This makes it one of many international festivals in Mallorca. Over 100 films of different categories are presented during the event such as feature films, short films, documentaries, music videos, animation films and more. The festival also presents the largest ‘Made in Baleares’ section for Balearic filmmakers which includes all categories.

Bridging Cultures and People

Sandra Seeling Lipski is the soul behind EMIFF. She founded and now directs the film festival. Now in its eighth year, the EMIFF again stays true to its mission: Bridging cultures and bridging people. Through international films the festival shapes a creative community for independent filmmakers to network, find inspiration and thrive on the exciting island of Mallorca. It also encourages the production of new films on our beautiful island.

Information about EMIFF 2019

During nine days, EMIFF will return to the Cineciutat rooms to fulfill its mission through the universal language of cinema. This year’s festival will curate over 100 screenings, networking events, panel talks, island excursions and master classes, attracting over 4,000 guests from over 30 countries.The latter favor networking through talks, conferences and professional workshops.

The Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival will again take place at the most elegant and renowned locations on the island of Mallorca, including Rialto Living, Gerhardt Braun Gallery and Es Baluard, with the Award Ceremony taking place at the Palau de Congressos.

Award-winning stars

This year, the Academy Award winning filmmaker, Asif Kapadia will receive top honour at the festival, being awarded with the Evolution VISION Award. The acclaimed filmmaker is known for exceptional documentaries such as ‘Diego Maradona’, ‘Amy’ and ‘Senna’.

The Evolution VISION Award is EMIFF’s top accolade, presented on the Opening Night of the festival, to an artist who consistently inspires audiences, breaks boundaries, and has shaped diverse and inclusive stories that have touched international audiences.

Previous recipients of this award have included Mads Mikkelsen and Paul Haggis, with attendance at the festival from the biggest names in the business. This has included Danny DeVito, Ana de Armas, Emma Suarez, Marisa Paredes, Melissa Leo, Pilou Asbaek and Tobias Lindholm among many more.

Schedule of events

Asif Kapadia will collect the Evolution Vision Award at the opening gala, and in his honour, EMIFF will broadcast his Oscar-winning documentary Amy (Thursday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. in Room 2 of Cinaciutat).

Guy Nattiv, who will also be in Palma de Mallorca, will collect the Evolutionary Award, and his short film “SKIN” will be screened at the festival (Saturday, October 26 at 6:30 p.m. in Cinaciutat Room 2) along with his homonymous feature film with the that the filmmaker has continued the story, with Jamie Bell and Vera Farmiga starring in the main roles (Monday, October 28 at 7:00 p.m. in Cinaciutat Room 1).

Lena Headey will be the third industry name awarded in that edition, which shows the film in which she starred in”The Flood” (film starring the actress that can be seen on Friday October 25 at 20:30 in Cinaciutat Room 2) and “The Trap” , the prime series where the Game of Thrones was Director.
