If you would like to lend your hand to help the environment in Mallorca, there are several beach clean ups that you can get involved in. These have been developed to tackle one of the biggest threats to our oceans and to ourselves – plastic pollution.
Every year millions of tons of trash end up in the sea. It is estimated that by 2050 there could be more plastic than fish in its waters. The Plastic Tide is growing by 8 million metric tonnes a year and if nothing is done, it is estimated that this figure will rise to 80 million metric tonnes by 2025.
This tide does not recede. It consists of all sizes of plastics, with larger pieces taking at least 400 years to break down, into fragments known as microplastics.
Marine litter is a global challenge that everybody, individually and collectively, can take concrete action to address it. Not only by cleaning the beaches in Mallorca and coasts, but also committing to a more sustainable lifestyle – by reducing plastic consumption, reusing and recycling.
