The Church of Santa Maria is one of the most iconic buildings in Mallorca, dominating the skyline with an impressive multi-level bell tower which is also home to a small museum dedicated to medieval pottery.
In 1505, a terrible fire destroyed the church, resulting in the construction of a new Gothic-style temple. Its facade, which is divided into four bodies features a beautiful sundial that dates back to 1664. Between 1880 and 1881, a series of extension works were carried out, including its large starry octagonal dome.
Sineu’s town hall is also well recommended to visit, housed in a 17th-century Baroque convent. Venturing inside, you will find a stunning example of a cross from the Renaissance era named ‘Creu dels Morts’ which translated to Cross of the Dead.
For those that want to find out about the town’s heritage, the Convent de la Concepció is your place, which features a charming revolving door through which you can purchase pastries made by its nuns.
Each Wednesday, life is breathed into the town, with Sineu’s weekly market attracting locals and residents for its offering of local produce. Taking place across several areas in the town, one can find everything from arts & crafts to livestock.
